Market Street Massage Clinic
The Market Street Massage Clinic emerged from the mind of Susan Currie a short time ago, and “Everything came together beautifully,” she says. She now has a location and three business associates; Whitney Horstman, Sue Hunt, and Jacquie Dillon. They are offering a variety of techniques under one roof in order to support the wellness of the individual as a whole.
Massage therapy, rolfing, reiki, and acupunture are all available. “It is our belief that several angles of treatment can be more effective than one,” states Whitney. The opportunity to build their own business, including the location (doing much of the construction themselves), is refreshing for the women of MSMC after years of following the procedures of other establishments. “We can do things the way we think they should be done, and everyone benefits,” says Susan.
Each therapist offers something different, and they can work together for each client. “We want to help
people have a better quality of living,” says Whitney, “life is too short to live with pain.”
The clinic is in the back garden courtyard of 133 N. Market Street in Wailuku, near the corner of Market and Vineyard. Open Monday through Saturday, available evenings. 808-269-0984.

Upcountry Fitness
“Upcountry Fitness was created to empower women physically,” says Jan Sears, an owner and the general manager of the facility since 2000. Specifically it was created as a place where women could feel comfortable working out. Women who exercise regularly reap a myriad health benefits and rewards.
“Women’s health issues are of great concern to me,” says Jan. One out of two women arrive at age 50 with
osteoporosis. Women suffer twice as much depression. Weight gain affects far more women than men and weight management is definitely a higher priority for women. The leading cause of death among women is cardiovascular disease. One of the greatest health worries women have is female cancers. And women suffer more from self-esteem and self-concept issues than men.
Thousands of studies document the benefits for women who are consistently physically active. Some of the benefits include: better moods in spite of the number of negative experiences, reduced tension, protection from stress-induced illnesses and some cancers, raising energy levels, preventing osteoporosis, reducing anger, increasing vigor, and inducing clear thinking. Improved self-esteem and physical acceptance are benefits of exercise along with feelings of achievement and a sense of belonging. In fact, studies show that exercise is as effective as psychotherapy in reducing depression and anxiety (Weinberg & Gould 2007). Women who exercise have a sense of personal control and purpose in daily life.
“If you are interested in obtaining and maintaining these benefits in your life, come see us at Upcountry Fitness. We are happy to discuss your health goals with you and support you in achieving these benefits in your life,” Jan invites. 575-7334.

Aloha Dermatology
Dermatology is a very specialized branch of the medical world. When you have skin care needs, a general doctor may not provide the level of care you deserve.
It makes sense, then, to find a dermatologist with thorough experience. Micki Ly, MD is a board certified dermatologist with Magna Cum Laude from Ohio State University. In addition to medical dermatology, she artistically transforms her clients to a more youthful appearance.
Dr. Ly is a member of numerous organizations including the American Academy of Dermatology and the Hawaii Dermatological Society.
She provided service to more than 40,000 members of the Kaiser network in Wailuku until 2005. She now has a state-of-the-art clinic in Kahului, the Aloha Dermatology and Laser Center.
Dr. Ly covers both adult and pediatric dermatology. Would your doctor schedule you at the last minute on a booked day if you had an unexpected issue? Dr. Ly offers that to all her existing clients, and service with heart and a smile.
Her goal is to make people “look younger without looking fake.”
Cosmetic services require foresight to achieve results that are aesthetically pleasing, yet natural. Dr. Ly listens to her clients’ desires, is sensitive to their comfort level, and has become known as one of the best in Maui!

Dr. Mastroianni’s Office
At the offices of Rob Mastroianni MD, we pride ourselves in providing our patients with the best healthcare possible, but there is the practice of medicine and then there is the business of medicine. Just like any other business, we have bills to pay, payroll to meet and invoicing to do. This is where a dedicated team of women professionals support the medical team by staying on top of the thousand and one things that need to get done in any medical office.
At Reception we have our head receptionist, Ravan Pavao, who ensures that faxes are distributed, referrals made and appointments booked. All the while answering the constantly ringing telephones and laughing with our patients. She is assisted by Tish Holt.
Medical insurance is a minefield of rules and regulations and we are fortunate to have the services of Michele Dale, our Accounts Receivable Manager. She ensures that the billing is sent out and monies collected. She is assisted by Terry Downs, who is an investigator deluxe when it comes to tracking down information.
If you have ever seen a medical coding book you will certainly understand that it takes a person with great attention to detail to marry up the office procedures with the correct billing code. Lori Sitzwohl of Akamai Billing provides excellent medical coding for our office.
Susi Mastroianni rounds off the Administration team by doing the Human Resources, Accounts Payable and overall Office Administration. So the next time you see one of our providers, know that there is a whole team of dedicated ladies ensuring that our doors stay open and you stay healthy. 808-573-8900.

Maui Hands
Panna Speas was born in the summer of 1960 on Lake Michigan. Her first home was a 52-foot sailboat she shared with her parents, grandmother, three sisters, a brother and a monkey. She spent blissful years of childhood on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands before moving to Florida to attend college.
After four years in a commune, a year traveling the world and two years in the Florida Keys, Panna then found a home in Maui. Rambutan Furniture
Jan ‘Fatu’ Maraire, owner of Rambutan Furniture, began to pursue her interest in African music and culture in 1982 through the study of Zimbabwean marimba and mbira music. She improved and later performed nationally and internationally with the premier marimba ensemble, Dumi and Minanzi, a 10-piece marimba ensemble based in Seattle. After living eleven years in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Jan returned to her Hawaiian birthplace and started teaching what was most likely the only African-marimba-music garage band on the island with the hopes of training players for a new full-on marimba group. The band “Mapenzi Marimba” emerged from this project two years ago. Thirteen members deep, Maui’s own big band marimba ensemble has rocked Casanova and festivals at the Paia Train Depot with their brand of traditional and contemporary music of Southern and East Africa. The crowds could be seen attempting to stand still but failing, giving way to contagious movement, laughter and the occasional bout of shouting and stomping.
Check them out at www.mapenzimarimba.com, or stop by her eclectic shop Rambutan, in the Paia Train Depot. They are available to shake up your private parties, festivals, cultural events, and school functions. Jan can be reached at 579-6008.

Tara Grace
Being a woman, a single mother, and an entrepreneur requires a juggling act to say the least. Keeping all the hats straight requires that a woman be fully dedicated on multiple fronts constantly. Between mothering, personal growth, building prosperity, and estate planning, time quickly becomes the most valuable resource.
It is for these reasons that I have invested in radical self-reliance. This involves continually evaluating how I can best serve all parties: my child, my community, the precious environment in which we all live, while still putting energy into personal growth. Now, I nurture the eco-preneur in me: I see every home having a solar energy system in place. I would like every household to drink pH balanced water as a way to health.
I also work with an investment education organization called Nouveau Riche University because it has the ability to empower people, allowing them to grant themselves financial freedom. Basically, I am tapped into new companies that are about sharing greater wealth than ever while serving humanity’s greater good.
And I love to help people. I wish to see others gain the tools they need to feel comfortable and direct their energy towards the things that empower them and make them feel free. 870-1006, NRUniversity.com powerfromsolarenergy.com
