The fifth annual Hawai‘i Island Seed Exchange is coming!

This year’s annual exchange will be held on Saturday June 16, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Captain Cook, Hawai‘i, on the Kona side of the Big Island.

Last year over 450 people attended the event, and most brought seeds, cuttings, roots, hulis or small plants to share. This year there will be an educational tent with tables of island groups and individuals  sharing their knowledge and resources in the area of agriculture. Hawai‘i SEED will be doing genetic testing on papayas; bring a small piece of the new top leaf on your papaya plants  to have them tested for genetically modified genes.

The event is sponsored by Bishop Museum’s Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, Hawai‘i SEED, and the Know Your Farmer Alliance.
