The nomination deadline has been extended to August 31 for the 2006 Mayor’s Small Business Awards Program, the Office of Economic Development announced.
“Small business is the economic backbone of Maui County,” says Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa in the press release. “The Mayor’s Small Business Awards were designed to recognize and to honor small businesses that clearly demonstrate how hard work and determination pay off.”
There are four award categories: Small Business of the Year (five or fewer employees), Small Business of the Year (six to 50 employees), Young Small Business Person of the Year (under 40), and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Winners will be announced and invited to participate in a display of products/services at the October 11 awards banquet at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Nomination forms are available by calling or visiting the Maui County Business Resource Center, across from iHop at Maui Mall, at 873-8247; or from the Office of Economic Development at 270-7710. The form may also be downloaded from www.mcbrc.org/news.htm.
Completed nomination forms and two letters of recommendation must be received at the Maui County Business Resource Center, 70 Ka’ahumanu Avenue, Unit B-9, Kahului, HI 96732 no later than August 31.
The Mayor’s Small Business Awards originated two years ago in a cooperative effort among the mayor’s office, the Office of Economic Development and the Maui Chamber of Commerce to give due recognition to excellent small businesses in Maui County.
“The Maui County Chamber of Commerce is once again encouraging the community to take part in the Small Business Awards by nominating outstanding businesses in our county,” Chamber President Pamela Tumpap said. “Small business owners are exceptional innovators and strategists that contribute greatly to our community.”
Each category winner will receive $1,000 in new or increased advertising in AdVentures’ next publication and will be included in the Mayor’s Small Business Awards page in the AdVentures Phone Book, a special dinner for two, a Mayor’s Small Business Award Winner window decal and certificate, a commemorative award and a listing in all award-related press releases distributed to the media.
All nominees will be recognized at the awards dinner and receive a certificate from Arakawa. This year’s Small Business Sponsor is Whalers Realty Inc.
