Historic Lahaina Town will be hosting fireworks at 8 p.m. on July 4, 2008.

A convenient and inexpensive way to get to Lahaina is the Maui Bus and they will have extended service on West Maui routes including the Ka‘anapali and Napili Islander. There is also free shuttle service into Lahaina for guests staying at the following resorts: The Westin Ka‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas, Sheraton Maui, and Westin Maui Resort and Spa.

Many of Maui’s boats are offering special trips: Hop aboard Trilogy for a fireworks sail and enjoy an American picnic dinner with burgers, hot dogs, sushi and an ice cream sundae bar. BYOB. Departing Lahaina Harbor: 6:15 p.m., returning: 9:30 p.m. Reservations: 808-874-5649. Pacific Whale Foundation is offering cocktail and pupus cruises out of Lahaina and Ma‘alaea Harbors. Four trips leave out of Ma‘alaea Harbor: 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 6:45 p.m., and 7 p.m. Out of Lahaina Harbor: 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Reservations: 808-249-8811. Prince Kuhio offers a trip out of Ma‘alaea which includes live entertainment, beer, wine, mai tais, soft drinks and pupus. Departs: 6:45 p.m., returns: 10 p.m. 808-242-8777. Pride of Maui offers a dinner cruise, leaving Ma‘alaea Harbor: 6:30 p.m., returning: 9:45 p.m. 808-242-0955. The Teralani departs from Ka‘anapali: 6 p.m., offering a full dinner and open bar. 808-661-1230. Also sailing out Ka‘anapali is Kapalua Kai Sailing Charters. The trip will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and includes open bar, pupus and full dinner. Reservations: 808-667-5980. The fireworks will begin at 8 p.m. from a barge moored off shore of Lahaina Town. All boaters, swimmers, surfers and other water users are warned to remain outside the 600-foot safety zone surrounding the barge from 12 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. Two security vessels will be patrolling the safety zone to ensure compliance. Front Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Baker and Hotel Street from 4:30 to 9 p.m. All parking lots will be open.

Fireworks will be visible from many vantage points throughout Lahaina Town. Great viewing is also possible from parks, beaches and mauka neighborhoods.

The 4th of July celebration in Lahaina is coordinated by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise, which is part of Rotary International, a 1.2 million member volunteer organization of business and professional leaders committed to working together to improve communities. The cost of the fireworks is funded in its entirety by the businesses, resorts and the community of West Maui. For additional information call the event hotline at 808-667-9194.
