The library is alive... with the sound of taiko music! Kahului Public Library is scheduled to host, “The Art of Taiko,” featuring taiko drum artist Kenny Endo and his ensemble on Wednesday, January 23 at 9:30 a.m. in the Hawaiiana Reading Area. Admission is free.

Endo and his ensemble will present a lecture-demonstration on the art of performing with taiko (Japanese drums). In this unique cultural and educational program, Endo will introduce the many drums and percussion instruments of Japan as used in traditional and contemporary music.

Presented by the University of Hawaii at Moana State Cultural Extension Program, and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the State Foundation on Cultural and the Arts, and the Maui Friends of the Library, this one-hour program is recommended for all ages.

Call the library three weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accomodation is needed.
