Douglas Hoffman, director of Maui Photography was named the 2007 Photographer of the Year, by the Professional Photographers of Hawaii.

In 2007, the PPH held quarterly print and album competitions. Based on the scored and critique of the jurors, Douglas received the honor.

In print competitions earlier this year, Douglas received the highest scores for two portraits. One was The Wreck of the Carthaginian, of a sunken ship named Carthaginian, off the coast of Lahaina. The other is called Hope, a photo of a baby humpback whale.

During 2007, Douglas earned 13 merit points from juried competitions. Merit points go towards earning a photography fellowship, the largest honor awarded by the PPH. He earned seven merit points for print work and five points for wedding albums he submitted.

The PPH is an affiliate of the Professional Photographers of America. They are dedicated to providing a forum for professional photographers to stay current with the latest technology, equipment and standards of practice.

Douglas and his wife, Mieko Hoffman operate Maui Photography. For the past 15 years, they have specialized in family portraiture, fine art and weddings.
