Should Hawaii allow same-sex unions?

LBN seeks volunteers to work on Wahikuli Interpretative Trail

LAHAINA — Lahaina Bypass Now (LBN) needs volunteers to help clean up the future Wahikuli Interpretive Trail on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 8 to 10 a.m.

In conjunction with the county Department of Parks and Recreation, an enhanced walking trail is being created with the award of a $9,000 Hawaii Tourism Authority grant to the West Maui Cultural Council through the county Office of Economic Development.

The grant will provide interpretive signage along the trail showcasing cultural points of interest.

The county Parks Department is installing a concrete walking path within Wahikuli Beach Park, and LBN has been coordinating the grant to provide interpretative signage along this path.

The Wahikuli Interpretative Trail will be connected to the Kaanapali Beach Walk, which will ultimately allow walkers to stroll along the coast from Kahekili Beach Park to Wahikuli Beach Park.

LBN would like to clean up the trail before all the improvements are made. Call Harold Hyman at 667-7244 to volunteer.

One of LBN’s transportation strategies is to create walking and biking paths to encourage alternative forms of transportation. LBN is working with coastal landowners to extend pathways so pedestrians can ultimately walk from Kapalua to Lahaina Town.

LBN hopes to connect the Kapalua Coastal Trail to sidewalks along Napili, Kahana and Honokowai, then connect to the Kaanapali Historical Trail and beach walk, the future Wahikuli Interpretive Trail and Lahaina’s Historic Trail.

Lahaina Bypass Now (LBN) is a community-based organization dedicated to developing transportation solutions for Maui. Anyone interested in joining Lahaina Bypass Now is encouraged to call 667-2516, e-mail info@lahainabypassnow.com or visit http://www.lahainabypassnow.com.
