Artists confirmed for Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational
“Together, we will once again strive to produce our best work during the week-long event,” said Ronaldo Macedo.
LAHAINA — Local artist Ronaldo Macedo, who recently returned from the prestigious tenth annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational, announced that seven artists from the Laguna event are confirmed to participate in the Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational on Feb. 14-21, 2009, in West Maui. These artists include Ken Auster, Jacobus Baas, Saim Caglayan, Carolyn Hesse-Low, Macedo, Larry Moore and Randall Sexton.
“I am excited for Hawaii artists and art connoisseurs that the invitational has become one of the favorite events among great artists from around the country,” said Macedo.
“They are all very eager to make the trip to Maui in February. One of the country’s great artists painting in the upcoming event for the first time is Kevin Macpherson.”
The 2009 event will be coordinated by Islanders-Hawaii Plein Air Painters, West Maui Cultural Council, and The Village Gallery. Sponsors include Maui No Ka ‘Oi magazine; The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua; Pioneer Inn; Pacific’O Restaurant; Maui Land & Pineapple Co.; Kaanapali Land Management Corp.; Maui Printing Co.; The Irvine Museum; and Kapalua Adventure Center Café, with donations from local businesses, including Water Source and Maui Grown Coffee Company Store.
The week-long Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational is interspersed with special events that are free and open to the public.
This year, the invitational is also offering workshops before and after the event taught by participating artists Ken Auster and Camille Przewodek. A portion of the workshop fees are going toward a youth art scholarship fund.
